MERCATOR SIGNS SRI LANKA'S FIRST LOW COST AIRLINE

Start-up airline appoints mercator as its IT passenger services solutions provider.

DUBAI, UAE - APRIL 2011 - Recent start-up and budget airline of Sri Lanka, Mihin Lanka, has selected mercator to provide the IT systems needed to support its business operations. Since winning the business in July 2010, mercator has been working on implementing a passenger reservations system, internet booking facility and departure control system.

Mihin Lanka commenced operations in 2007, is Sri Lanka's second airline, and its only low cost carrier. The airline services eight destinations across the sub-continent, Asia and Middle East.

"Technology plays a critical role in determining how an airline performs and remains competitive. Mihin Lanka did a lot of research before selecting a partner whom we felt could play a key role in our aspirations to benefit from internet protocol technologies that would provide end-to-end services to the desktop and airport integration," said Kapila Chandrasena, Chief Executive Officer. "We feel confident that mercator's solutions will assist Mihin Lanka in delivering a positive experience for our passengers across all stages of their journey. These technologies will enable us to provide high level customer service, and to streamline and integrate our airline and airport operations."

The systems delivered to Mihin Lanka have been designed by mercator to enable carriers to add more functionality, especially in customer service areas ranging from check-in desks upwards. The passenger reservations system and internet booking facility provide an e-commerce distribution system that will support the airlines' ticket sales. These solutions can be integrated with other business processes to deliver effective online customer services at the lowest cost.

"This is testament to mercator's ability to provide customers with quality products and solutions that help develop and grow their business. We continue to invest in our products to ensure they help our customers to manage their businesses more effectively; so that they can focus on driving sales and enhancing relationships with their customers. The deal with Mihin Lanka helps mercator further cement its position in the Asia Pacific region and supports its vision of becoming a global leader in IT business solutions and a service provider of choice," said Duncan Alexander, Vice President mercator.
